Job description: Individual Gage Steward General responsibilities

Prior to flood season a. Reinstall all field transmitters and sensors (excluding those over the river/waterways) i. Clean sensor ii. Change batteries iii. Inspect antenna iv. broken antenna 2. Clear debris or any obstruction beginning of season; each flood 3. During flood season, generally a. Monitor flood forecast b. Signup for Floodzilla notifications c. Attend monthly meetings d. Be available prior to flood event, or notify team if unable e. Outreach to community of users/communicate re: user experience f. Ongoing performance monitoring i. Remote diagnostics, incl. battery level (Liquid Levels & SVPA) ii. Site-based diagnostics 1. antenna (replace, tightening 2. debris 3. batteries 4. reset 5. indicator light 6. need to clean iii. Remove, return to office, return to manufacturer (general failure, manufacturer, inundation 4. Prior to individual flood event (10 days) a. Check all systems (tasks 3.f.ii) b. Review recent data, look for and delete bad readings, determine cause, fix if possible 5. During flood event/troubleshooting sensor/transmitter (as appropriate, limited based on safety) a. Share Floodzilla with community (reminder!) b. Monitor readings every few hours (during waking hours) c. Mark gages off-line if bad readings, cannot be fixed during flood event (accessibility) d. Take photos, make observations at key locations to build database 6. After floods, especially if inundated (maybe too much to ask volunteers?) a. Visit gage site, inspect (see tasks 3.f.ii) 7. End of flood season a. Take down transmitters/remove batteries/change frequency of readings) b. Clean transmitters & sensors c. Assist with end of flood season survey (to ensure they haven’t moved, as USGS and Forest Service do)
